I am trying to get a better understanding of my Evolutionary path in regards to my Nodal Axis. My north node is in Taurus, in the 8th house. Which means my south node is in Scorpio in my 2nd house. The 2nd house is ruled by Taurus while the 8th house is ruled by Scorpio. It seems like I am trying to find the balance of having the 2nd house energy of Taurus manifest in the 8th house energy of Scorpio. My sun sign is Libra, which is all about balance and partnership. I found an interesting blog which describes the N. Node in the 8th house and S. Node in the second:
South Node Second House, North Node Eighth House
The South Node represents what we've come into this life with---the gifts, the wounds, the challenges. On the most basic level, the South Node is where we are comfortable because we are familiar with the territory, and in the Second House we can be very comfortable indeed. Having the South Node ruled by Taurus and Venus, it suggests that our comfort zone is in being independently resourceful, and that our creature comforts are very important to us. Taurus, Venus, and the Second House all love security, good food and drink, loyal friends, and the type of life philosophy that is rooted in a pragmatic and sensual understanding of life. Nothing wrong with that!
That is unless you take it too far. And this is the case if it's your South Node in the Second House. The South Node always represents the area that we didn't get quite right in a former life, or earlier in this one, so we are called to release these habits and traits. This Nodal combination speaks to the need to move away from the dependence, security, and comfort needs of this house and move towards the willingness to risk one's present level of security for a deeper, truer level of security and integrity.
The Eighth House, whose astrological synonyms are Scorpio and Pluto, are about the willingness to die and be reborn like the phoenix if necessary in order to live a life of integrity. No false security or living in the world of denial for North Node Eighth House people!
The North Node in the eighth house, the house of Scorpio, calls us to find the emotional bottom line in all we do. It calls us to move beyond comfort, security, and even the simpler pleasures of life, and to look into the eyes of the bully to find the frightened unloved child there. It calls us to Truth and to new experience. It calls us to reach for the understanding of another's point of view, other than our own, and the willingness to intimately and dynamically become related with that "Other." It asks us to understand the highest level of inter-dependence, rather than dependence or independence.
And that is really a powerful place to be in! Here is where we can truly know the meaning of loyalty and trust. A North Node in this Eighth house is quite a gift if we can harmonize the qualities of our Second House into this, providing stability as well as ambition, integrity as well as intimacy. © Elizabeth Spring www.elizabethspring.com
She also wrote about the north node in Taurus:
With your North Node in Taurus, your Soul craves peace and serenity in this life--as well as good music, a loyal lover, and picnics on the beach with good food and wine! Doesn't everybody? Yes, but not like you---you need these things to remind your Soul that life can be good and safe and beautiful.
Having suffered too much drama and trauma either earlier in this life, or in a previous one, you're suffering now from a slight despair of spirit and the cure for this soul sickness is to nurture yourself with the things that make life worth living. Cultivating loyal friends, enjoying nature and the physical world, and creating a beautiful home that feels like a safe harbor are all good things for you to do.
By choosing to find the "sacred in the commonplace" you re-awaken your Soul to the Divine in all things. You're not being a materialist when you truly enjoy the beauty of a hand-made wooden spoon or pottery bowl, or take time away from your work and ambitions to watch the sun set with an old friend. By seeing into the true nature of things, you get a sense of what many of the mystics have seen--that God is here and now, and found in the ordinary/extraordinary things of this life.
What do you truly value? What do you stand for in life? Something in you needs to know yourself deeper and to prove yourself worthy. The old path or habits that need to be left behind involve too much immersion in other people's dramas...a helping hand is fine, but don't get embroiled in dramas that aren't yours. Power and control issues, and your ability to manipulate situations need to be let go of. Your've done too much of that in the past. The focus now needs to be on you, and finding what you value and what nurtures you.
This life is about finding that mystical sense of belonging to a Universe that is benevolent. No easy task! It's a profound spiritual calling to find spirit in matter, and to find yourself in "right relationship" with others.
When your've come to a turning point on the Taurus-Scorpio path you'll need to ask yourself if you've been able to ground yourself with a workable level of financial and emotional stability. If you can say yes to that, you're ready to retrieve the gold in the shadow--your Scorpio South Node. There's hidden wisdom and power there, for in your Scorpio past you deeply understood other people and had a keen intuitive-psychic nature. You might have been the detective, the shaman, the priest, or the power behind the throne---the one who could hone in on the emotional bottom line. Now if you can bring your new level of security and grounded faith in the goodness of life into your relationships with others and into your work, you can nourish others with your profound wisdom.
A full understanding of your Nodes needs to include what "house" or area of your life that the Nodes occupy. This is an area of your life which calls for particular attention, and this can only be done by examining your particular birth chart, based on the time and date of your birth. North Node in Taurus and a Tangible Venus from NeithIf the North Node is in Taurus, we are looking at the tangible expression of Venus. Taurus is not particularly interested in the beauty of ideas and concepts the other Venus ruled sign, Libra, finds so appealing. Taurus likes to be able to touch, taste and smell the good things in Life. I have just survived another spate of gift giving, and received too many sweets (Venus treat) and ended up feeding some to the compost pile! But I did receive a small box of Godiva chocolates – the ultimate Venusian treat and a very Taurus one because these are very high quality chocolates and are best savored intently one by one.
As someone who has Taurus on the cusp of the 6th and 7th Houses (Koch House System), beautiful, functional surroundings are very comforting and healing. Living in a rural area enables me to sink into the rhythms of the seasonal changes and feel renewed. For someone with a North Node in Taurus finding a way to connect to the Natural world and the seasonal cycles is very, very important. The stress of a fast-paced urban lifestyle will eventually open the door to various stress related illness in this individual. As someone whose Sun was progressed into Scorpio for the first 30~ years, I understand the pull of the intense experience and how destructive it can be. The longer I live the more I am resolved to savor each moment of beauty, instead of rushing past them. Taking time to watch the snow flakes fall, swirling and dancing . . .
In truth, I recommend getting in touch with the Taurus in our charts as a way to slow down and smell the roses . . . like Ferdinand the Bull. We'll all be more likely to live longer and enjoy life more if we practice slow and steady instead of rush, rush, rush!
Taurus as North Node:
In past lives you used manipulation and seductions to get what you wanted. You misused sex and money and had the rug pulled out from under you many times. In this lifetime you need to focus on saving and investing money, trusting and live a life of inner peace. Get in touch with Mother Earth - Gardening is therapeutic.
These two blogs joined together give a good idea of who I have been and what I am trying to learn in my life. These touch on the power of my ability to manipulate and control those around me, to dominate. It is an innate psychic understanding that I use to my advantage, instead of using it to better the other person. Not only does this nodal axis, with Taurus in the 8th, Scorp in the 2nd, give a good idea of how I have been living past lives and what I have been awakened to recently: my own abuse of [unconscious in this life] psychic intuition. I also have Pluto conjunct my South Node, as well as Mercury. They both explain and pull the South Node in strong. They are in complete harmony together, making the overcoming of my South Node a big challenge, but I am ready, willing and determined to use my past lives, experiences and gifts to enlighten the world.
Pluto Conjunct Mercury:
You should have a powerful, penetrating and incisive mind, which is attracted towards delving deeply behind appearances. Whether these are social facades or intellectual theories or philosophies, your innate curiosity will enable you to look beneath the surface. As you tend to see your mind as a resource which you can utilise, you often collect many fragments of information on your searches, which you attempt to collate together into a workable source.
You feel 'at home' in your mind, enjoying applying it to a multitude of challenges and problems, confident in your ability to resolve them or make some kind of sense out of them. Following your natural investigative ability, you have an inner process occurring whereby you attempt to extract meaning from your studies and experience, hidden meanings that are mostly relevant only to yourself, although some may be of value to a wider audience too. There is a purist streak in your mind which prompts you to take quite an impersonal attitude to people and events, especially attaching a high value to 'truth' over the social games that people play; your directness is likely to stimulate reactions from others.
As usual with the Pluto energy, there will be an unknowable depth and dimension to your mind, with a tendency towards powerfully expressed extremism and assertiveness as your proceed to manifest your objectives. Your ability to concentrate your willpower and sustain it for as long as necessary will aid you in achieving your dreams. Your beliefs and opinions will tend to be fixed; and you will be difficult to shake from any position that you have decided to take, preferring a vigorous expression of your standpoint against any opponents. As you hate to be seen to have a weaker or fallacious argument, you tend to be well-prepared and confident upon any theme that you may be challenged upon; otherwise you have already prepared some way to evade a confrontation if you feel that you could be defeated. There may be a tendency to hold a grudge against any who have opposed you, or who stand in your way; and you will remember them, waiting for a suitable time to settle the scores.
Unnecessary social problems and suffering for people will draw out a sense of aggrieved anger in you, as will social and political hyprocrisy. You will tend to respond to these feelings by becoming more involved in reorientating your energies into channels which directly oppose those who appear to be creating or amplifying such problems. You feel that you can contribute towards changing things for the better; and this can lead you towards involvement with radical politics. The nature of your political views will depend on your personal analysis of causes; but in extreme cases may tend towards anarchism. Any tactics of subversion will appeal to the Pluto energy, as will the emphasis upon change and transformation. If the social emphasis of Pluto dominates, then much of your life will be directed by the theme of transformation, social and political.
You will tend to be demanding in your personal relationships, expecting a high quality and strength from any partner. But even though you may attempt to force him or her to submit to you psychologically, it will be much better for you if you fail, for a good relationship needs equality and mutual respect. You often tend to use your persuasive power to influence others to agree with you; but you have to learn more tolerance and a broader understanding of the freedom and rights of others to hold their own views. Ideally your long-term partner should be similar to you in outlook, motivation and interests, beacuse you may tend to turn the relationship into a form of intellectual power struggle, which would probably turn it sour before long if you did not have these in common. The obsessive tone of Pluto may cause some difficulties, both in your mental preoccupations, and in your relationship, especially if you are unaware of this aspect to yourself, which can easily turn you towards being excessively self-centred if unmoderated. The positive side of a relationship is that it can break down such tendencies, and open up the awareness of 'the other'; ceratinly you should learn to appreciate any relationship as bringing a more expansive quality into your life.
Pluto Conjunct the South Node:
Pluto conjunct the South Node is specifically correlated to an unresolved emotional or psychological trauma.
This position denotes karmic challenges regarding intimacy, self-mastery, addiction or compulsivity. This person might be lacking in self-control or tends toward obsession. Issues surrounding power and shared possessions are highlighted in their close associations. This person tends to learn about themselves through the mirror of other people. They develop intense emotional connections. The development of self-mastery and deep psychological insights is accentuated in their personal relationships.
Mercury Conjunct the South Node:
This person may be intellectually insecure (this can manifest itself if the individual feels stupid, has phone phobia, is blocked in terms of reading or other mental arenas) or they might trust only in rationality and logic. They may be fearful or phobic in school, regarding siblings, transportation, media, commerce, etc. Their challenge is to gain security through exercising mental skills and to learn that knowledge can be a bulwark.
This aspect produces a condition in which the natives' ideas are either behind or ahead of their times. On the positive side, the conjunction can bestow mental originality and independence. Then natives escape the pitfalls of popular opinion. In the long run, if the rest of the map indicates good mental capacity, the native will prove to be correct. On the negative side, the native is forced to proceed alone with his ideas since he cannot gian support for them. He does not speak out at the right time in the right place; and when he does speak, he is not listened to. Consequently, he is sometimes frustrated and feels mentally alone.
Bottom line: I have to be open, truly open to others. I have to listen... listen to my heart, listen to the Universe, listen to my friends, listen to my lover, listen for my cue. My cue to speak. My cue to instill wisdom. My cue to act. Be patient. Cherish each moment and live each day without reservation or holding back.
I have found my place. I have begun connecting with Mother-Earth. I will continue to delve within myself and use my Virgo to keep on task, master myself and my universe in order to share my wisdom, find my Truth and express it in the world for as long as I live to as many people as I can reach.
Shining Factor of Pluto in Scorpio:
You tear through appearances in an effort to get beneath, behind, and at the heart or essence. You may find psychology, initiation, and mysticism, and the occult of great interest. Intense personal change and inner growth are lifelong habits.
